Couples Therapy & Marriage Counseling in Phoenix, AZ
Every relationship hits seasons of difficulty. Sometimes it’s the slow drift of disconnection — two people living parallel lives under the same roof. Other times it’s a rupture: a betrayal, a loss, or a conflict that’s cycled for years without resolution.
At The Kineo Center in Phoenix, we work with couples at every stage — from those in acute crisis to those who simply want to build something stronger before the cracks appear. Whatever brought you here, you’ve already done the hard part by deciding to get help.
Who We Work With
Our couples therapists work with partners facing:
- Recurring arguments and communication breakdown
- Emotional distance and loss of intimacy
- Infidelity, broken trust, and betrayal wounds
- Parenting conflict and family stress
- Premarital counseling and relationship preparation
- Couples navigating addiction, mental health challenges, or major illness
- LGBTQ+ couples seeking an affirming, experienced
therapist - Couples who feel stuck and have ‘tried everything’
Our Approach
We don’t take sides, and we don’t assume one person is the problem. Instead, we look at the relationship itself as the system — the patterns, the cycles, and the unspoken dynamics that have built up over time. Our Phoenix couples therapists draw from some of the most researchbacked methods in the field:
- The Gottman Method — building friendship, trust, and communication skills grounded in decades of research on what makes relationships last
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) — identifying and shifting the underlying attachment patterns that drive conflict and withdrawal
- Restoration Therapy — breaking cycles of pain and resentment by helping each partner understand their own patterns
- Experiential interventions — going beyond talking to promote genuine connection in the room
- Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy for Couples — for partners who feel deeply stuck and want to reboot their dynamic
What to Expect
Your first step: a free 15-minute consult
Before scheduling your first session, we invite both partners to a brief phone consult. We’ll listen to a bit of your story, answer your questions about the process, and help you decide whether Kineo is the right fit.
Your first couples session
The first session is for both of you. Your therapist will hear each partner’s perspective, begin to understand the patterns at play, and create a safe space where both people feel respected — even if you’re currently not feeling like a team.
Ongoing work
Most couples meet weekly. Sessions are 50 minutes, held at our office at 5320 N. 16th St., Suite 110, or via telehealth. The work is both relational and practical — you’ll gain insight into your patterns and specific skills you can practice between sessions.
Common Questions
Can we come to therapy if we’re not sure we want to stay together?
Absolutely. Therapy isn’t a commitment to your relationship — it’s a commitment to clarity. Some couples leave renewed. Others find a more peaceful path forward.
What if one partner is reluctant?
It’s common. We encourage the willing partner to book the free consult anyway — sometimes hearing about the process directly from a therapist is what makes the difference.
Do you work with unmarried couples?
Yes. We work with all couples — dating, engaged, married, or somewhere in between.
